Lions meet the needs of local communities and the world every day because they share a core belief – to serve their community.
I am dedicated, I am a volunteer, I am responsible, I am compassionate, I am strong, I am a team player, I am a risk taker, I am adventurous. I am goal oriented and ready to make a difference.
As a member of the Sparta Lions Club, North Carolina Lions Inc. and Lions Clubs International, I am dedicated to meeting community, state and international needs of others.
Our major service initiative is serving the blind and visually impaired and are dedicated to youth programs and helping young people in our community and around the globe.
Today, Lions International is 1.4 million strong with active clubs in over 190 countries and geographic areas worldwide. The Global Service Framework focuses the efforts of Lion and Leos on five service are-as: vision care, environment, hunger relief, pediatric care and diabetes. This expansion of services will triple our humanitarian impact resulting in our serving 200 million people per year by 2021. No matter how you chose to serve, our responsibility to our motto “We Serve” is now more of a mission than a motto.
“To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation.”
If you are looking for an opportunity to help people, broaden your horizons and fulfill your goals, Sparta Lions Club has what you are seeking. With a distinguished legacy that has retained its relevance through the years, Sparta Lions Club is a premier service club. Membership in Sparta Lions Club provides the opportunity for women , men and youth to learn, enhance, grow and assume leadership roles in this community, North Carolina as well as Internationally.
Sparta Lions Club returns 100% of the gifts/donations and program proceeds in support of local charitable, civic and individuals with special needs. Our funds are not unlimited, so the more we earn the more is spread among these endeavors. We participate in numerous activities to raise funds, working at the Alleghany Fairgrounds concession, collecting aluminum can tabs for the Leader Dog program, collecting money from motorists on Main Street for the North Carolina Brighter Visions semi annual fund drive, selling ads in the annual newspaper, displaying the American Flags on Main Street, and selling brooms. Our support of the visual and hearing impaired in our community is over $6,000 annually and more than $3,000 to the Alleghany County Fair Grounds. Sparta Lions Club Members give an average of 250 hours annually of their time and services to various church and civic organizations.
Being a Lion enriches your family life. There are currently seven couples that are members of Sparta Lions Club.
The cost of being a Lion is modest; there is a one-time minimal membership fee, plus nominal quarterly dues. Your time commitments can range from as little as three hours a month (meeting) to much more, depending on your schedule and interest.
We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Lions Club Pavilion located at the end of Trojan Ave, Sparta, NC. Meetings are at 6:30 and are designed for Club members, as a group, to evaluate current projects/programs, plan for future projects/programs and conduct business. Member presentations are often part of the meetings.
